OASIS WHYALLA: autopoiesis and urban living
The Urban Ecosystem design Lab of the School of Architecture, University of Adelaide, is in Whyalla with a group of students for two weeks. The students are participating in an intensive Urban Design studio, organised in collaboration with the local government. The studio provides a full immersion experience in this South Australian regional community with the aim to define an urban regeneration proposal through an accurate understanding of the local spatial and cultural context. The studio is aimed at taking advantage of the apparent isolation of the town of Whyalla as an opportunity to recreate a socio/ecological/economic urban system able to reproducing and self-maintaining itself in sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
