BE UNSW with PlaceAgency, GreenWay, Inner West Council
Lewisham West NSW 2049, 7th of December 2019

WHAT IF:
The roundabout was a public plaza?
The road a shared space?
The asphalt a green space?
The bandicoot was back in Lewisham?

Students from the UNSW Built Environment 'Co-designing Urban Landscapes' course have designed a temporary tactical urbanism intervention for the open spaces near the Lewisham West light rail station.
The scope of the project is to reclaim public space from vehicle usage for pedestrian activities, to involve the community and to invest space with new meaning.
This project is organised under the Place Agency consortium and is aimed at realising transformative interventions able to improve places through the collaboration of academics, environmental artists, community and local councils.
The projects were presented in a public design contest. The students have built and installed the winning concept. The launch with a street party was held on Saturday, 7th of December, 4pm – 6pm in Lewisham West on the eastern side of the light rail station.
